Story

During 24 hours starting around 4am on Saturday 11th September and finishing sometime on the Sunday, I will be attempting to walk to the summits of the three tallest mountains in each of Scotland (Ben Nevis , 1,343m ), England, (Scafell Pike , 978m ) and Wales (Mount Snowdon , 1,085m).

All in all I will be walking about 26 miles

During this time there will be no proper rest or sleep other than what I can get whilst travelling between mountains in a mini-bus....

There are so many worthy causes out there it was hard to know where to start but recently I had been up to The Royal Marsden with my son to visit his friend who had been diagnosed with Leukemia and in the end  that made my charity of choice an easy pick.

After a couple of months of getting increasingly tired and pale, Alex was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (A.L.L.). Within a couple of hours of diagnosis the treatment was started at his local hospital, St Peter's before he was transferred to the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton where he spent the next two weeks. Alex was put onto constant saline drip and given regular blood transfusions, chemotherapy, steroids and antibiotics.

After 2 weeks in the Marsden he returned home where his his parents gave him chemo along with weekly visits from the community nurse. Alex has weekly visits to the Marsden for biopsies, lumber-punctures and chemo.

Over the last 6 months Alex has gone through more real trauma than many people go through in their whole lives. If not treated in February the disease would have killed him in weeks.

Thankfully through lots of love and care from his parents and the Staff at The Royal Marsden, Alex has started to get better but will still require regular treatment for the next 2 or 3 years and Alex has an excellent chance of recovering totally from the disease.

When I saw Alex in the hospital it was sad and yet also uplifting  watching this very tired brave little boy trying to raise a smile at seeing his friend and so with Alex's wary smile in mind I figured if a 5 year old can battle against leukemia then I could endure a few blisters and  whatever the British weather could throw at me as I walked 26 miles up and down some mountains to try and raise some money for a children's charity.

The Royal Marsden have big plans and urgently need your help to support children like Alex through out the country.

The Royal Marsden are trying to raise £15m to build Europe's leading Children's and teenage Cancer Centre  . Your donation will go some way towards achieving that goal , so please just give whatever you can

Thank You for your support
