We are Crewmates of The Hackney Pirates, and we believe passionately that all young people should have the opportunity to experience adventures in their learning.
We are taking on the gruelling challenge of Tough Mudder, a 10 mile military assault course involving crawling through the mud, climbing over 10 ft wall, swimming through a tanker of ice water, sliding through a ring of fire (literally) and getting electrocuted.
We are putting ourselves through this torture to raise money for a new volunteer recruitment programme for The Hackney Pirates.
The Hackney Pirates is an innovative education charity working with young people aged 9-12 to develop literacy, confidence and perseverance. In our unconventional learning space, a pirate ship on Kingsland High Street, local young people work with our crew of dedicated volunteers on reading and creative writing projects that culminate in the publication of storybooks, CDs and websites. You can find out about the impact we are having and hear from some of our Young Pirates via this link: http://www.hackneypirates.org/our-impact
Your donation will go towards helping The Hackney Pirates recruit and train a larger community of volunteer Crewmates, ensuring we are able create adventures in learning for more local young people.
As well as making a donation, you can support us by joining our Tough Mudder crew, coming to the event to cheers us on or by setting up your own fundraising event like a bake sale or street party. If you are interested in getting involved, please email anthony@hackneypirates.org
We salute you!
