I am the Cricket Development Manager for Essex County Cricket Board. 'Essex Cricket' work in close partnership with charity, 'Cricket for Change', giving many children with disabilities the opportunity to get into Cricket.
'Cricket for Change' are taking 26 young people with either a learning disability, a physical disability or a visual impairment for a life changing, Disability Cricket Tour to Jamaica in July 2010.
On Saturday 3rd April I will be taking part in a 15 mile run with some of the young people who have a disability. The run will see us start at the Lords Cricket Ground, then we run to The Oval and we will finish at the 'Cricket For Change' Cricket centre, in Plough Lane, Wallington.
The Jamaica Tour will have a significant impact on the lives of the 26 young people, who will benefit from spending time away from their parents for the first time, develop self-confidence and self-esteem, develop team-working skills, and have a great experience, gain a sense of achievement, and really enjoy themselves.
The trip will also enable them to play against the respective 'Jamaica National disability team'.
