2010 is somewhat of a special birthday year for me and I’ve been plotting a unique way to celebrate it.  Obviously I want a party at some point, plus I’d like to raise money for Oxfam; a charity I’ve been working for as a volunteer now for nearly 4 years (see link for more info https://www.oxfam.org.uk/donate/legacy/champions.html), plus there had to be a musical twist to the celebrations, and finally I’d wanted to involve as many friends and family as possible.

So, I’m doing a Grade-1-athon!

The event was successfully launched on 4th July with approximately 30 participants committing to playing anything from flutes, clarinets, violins, etc. to a harp, fife, mandolin banjo and even a theremin.  We now have 3 months to learn our instruments and raise  sponsorship money for Oxfam.  The exam day/concert/party is scheduled for 3rd October. After much debating and counter voting, my friends settled on French Horn as the instrument of choice for me (it was a close run thing with bagpipes coming in a close second - phew!).
