Story

Hello everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to read my page! :)

I have been fortunate enough to be allocated a placement with Raleigh International, via Amber. This year October 9th I will be going to Tanzania to do voluntary work... I will give you some information about it.

I will add a video from YouTube when possible to show you a basic run of what we will do as well..

So within the 10 weeks I am out there, I will be enduring 3 phases. Community Phase, Environment Phase & Adventure Phase.

Community Phase; I will be placed on either the Sanitation project Or Education project. With sanitation, did you know only around 30% of the population have access to improved hygiene and sanitation. Education, most adults have barely any, with an average of 2 years per person and only having 7 compulsory years in schooling. Raleigh with the volunteers improve both of these for Sanitation we will be building affordable hygiene and sanitation units in schools and communities. For the education side, I will be helping construct schools and teaching young children.

Environment Phase; For this phase I will be placed on either one of two things, there is the Udzungwa Farming Project or "The Rocket Stove" Basically with the Farming project, a lot of communities live in close proximity to elephants migrating line a lot of their crops get damaged we will help by building a fencing as such, being that elephants dislike bees and chillies, it will be a barrier of beehives and chilli plants between the farmers land and the elephants to help protect their crops. With the Rocket stove, on average, families take up to 2 hours collecting raw essentials, releasing a lot more emissions into the environment, but there is the project of building these "Rocket Stoves" a more affordable less time consuming way for cooking.  I will be either involved in making them or teaching the communities how to use them & maintain them.

Adventure Phase; For this phase I will be trekking either from the South East of Iringa or the North West of Kilombera Valley, we will be carrying all of our equipment for the 19 days trek, we will also be meeting some of the local communities.

Once again, thank you for reading about this! :)
