Story
On the 4th of September Ryan and Jamie will take part in the Jailbreak challenge run by a non-profit organisation called Jailbreak Events. Jailbreak is a 48 hour travel challenge in aid of charity. In the run up to the event, our team will raise money for the chosen charity (Just One Ocean). After the horn has sounded, each team has to travel as far as possible without spending any of their own money on travel and relying on the public to help. The winner is the team which travels the furthest distance from the start within the 48 hour period measured in miles.
Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans which can be found on every beach in the world, from busy tourist beaches to uninhabited, tropical islands. There may now be around 5.25 trillion macro and microplastic pieces floating in the open ocean, weighing up to 269,000 tonnes. This is a global problem we all face which is why we are raising money to help the projects run by Just One Ocean.
About the charity:
Our mission is to raise the global awareness of the issues facing our marine and coastal environments in order to protect and conserve them for future generations. Just One Ocean has developed a number of projects to achieve this mission. We are currently undertaking and supporting scientific research in several disciplines, advising on community based programmes, supporting businesses and arts projects. The work we do is diverse, but so are the problems facing the ocean.
