Hernias are a huge burden in low resource countries. Hernias can be debilitating. Access to timely surgery is inadequate due lack of resources or poor finances. Some hernia sufferers in these countries, therefore, die needlessly from complications of hernias. Operation Hernia is committed to alleviating the suffering of hernia patients in these disadvantaged countries. We achieve this by offering a hernia service and by training local doctors in hernia surgery. All our surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and technicians are volunteers who fund themselves. All monies raised through donations go towards treatment of patients and training of local doctors. Your donation will transform a hernia sufferer's life. Thank you for your donation.

Operation Hernia Nigeria:

I am currently a fourth year medical student at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine applying to begin a general surgery residency in 2010.  For a long time I have been interested in doing volunteer work in my field of interest and thus, have decided to join Operation Hernia and Dr. Villalobos on a humanitarian mission.  The mission will take place in March 18-26, 2010, in the Awojobi clinic in Eruwa, Nigeria.  Here, we will have the opportunity to help patients with no medical resources by repairing groin hernias that at times can become life-threatening if left untreated. Because of the severe need for medicines and medical equipment in Nigeria I have begun an initiative to gather the necessary supplies to aid and complement this humanitarian mission.  Aside from the supplies I intend collect in donations and bring with me to Nigeria, your money will help aid the development of Awojobi clinic in Eruwa and improve the health of many Nigerians.

I greatly appreciate all your support in making this mission a success.

Sincerely,

Vangie A. Texidor Cabanillas
