After a four-year hiatus, I have decided to dust off my running shoes and participate in the 2023 London Landmarks Half Marathon, taking place on 2 April.

At the beginning of July 2022, my cousin and her husband in Australia, were faced with the sudden death of their beautiful daughter, Talia —  just weeks before she was due to turn two. It's a tragedy that no parent should have to face, but during that time and in addition to an outpouring of love and support from family and friends, there were charities that helped them find their way through the immeasurable grief. Sadly, five months later, my cousin Dinesh was brutally murdered in Sri Lanka the day he was due to fly to the UK with his family. His death has devastated our family and it's hard to comprehend that there are people out there who could be so cruel as to take a life away.

I've therefore chosen to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK, a charity that helps children and young people (up to age 25), parents, and families, to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. The charity offers free, confidential bereavement support by telephone, video or instant messenger, as well as face to face from a number of locations across the UK. It also provides training to professionals, equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families. Whilst this charity doesn't operate in Australia nor Sri Lanka, if participating in this half marathon can play even a small part in helping families like mine, then I'm happy to put myself through the mill again and aim for a better time!
