Story

Hi all

My daughter Evie has Williams Syndrome, so once again there is a team of us doing the Wild Warrior event to get very muddy / run a long way / try and raise some cash for the Williams Syndrome Foundation!

This year some of the WSF parents, plus parents from Stretton Eagles FC (my boys play for them) are joining me in the annual lunacy !  So – Sam, Rachel, Lee, Andy – thanks in advance for taking part, you won’t regret it hahahaha !

This year the run is on the 21st September, and is the usual 10k cross country run with mud pools, dirty lakes, water slides, submerged tunnels, fire jumps and more. Gotta love it !

Williams Syndrome is a very rare condition affecting about 1 in 25,000 people. In broad terms it is similar to Down's Syndrome and it comes with a number of lifelong challenges – learning difficulties, heart defects, muscle weakness, occasional kidney damage, and lack of co-ordination. WS people are also however very enthusiastic, friendly and talkative, so there are plenty of upsides too ! The charity provides invaluable advice to families with WS members, funds days out for WS families (so that our kids can build a network for the future), pays for short holidays for WS adults to spend time together, and funds research into the condition through UK universities. I know first hand what a good cause this is. For me there have been many tough moments along the way, with no doubt plenty more to come, but having the Foundation in the background and all the connections it has given us, has made the journey far more enjoyable !

Please help our small charity - if you are able to donate anything, to help inspire us to get over / through / under the mud bogs, water slides, tunnels, tightropes, and climbing walls that would be fantastic !
Thanks
Gareth and friends, aka Team Williams Syndrome

About the charity

The Williams Syndrome Foundation was formed in 1980 and is run by parents for parents of children with this rare condition which causes heart and kidney problems and learning difficulties.
