CWB BOTSWANA PROJECT 2010
In October I will be leading a project to Botswana on behalf of Cricket Without Boundaries (www.cricketwithoutboundaries.com) . For 2 weeks we will be coaching children and adults to play and coach cricket, as well as passing on valuable knowledge about HIV/Aids and its prevention. As well as all the cricket equiptment we will be taking with us and leaving, we will also be leaving behind the skills to educate further generations in both cricket, and in doing so, the truths and preventions of HIV/Aids.
Botswana has the second highest Aids prevalence in the world with 1 in 4 of the population now suffering. Mainly due to this modern epidemic, life expectancy in the country has fallen from 65 in 1995 to just 40 years of age in 2007. Whilst there are huge efforts being made within the country and from international charities, continued efforts are needed to educate the population of preventative measures. This project is by no means a one-off, as CWB will return to Botswana each year to continue the work.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and every penny donated will be so well appreciated. We are all covering our own expenses for the trip, so all the money that you so kindly donate will buy
cricket kit, t-shirts and other educational material for the future coaches and players in
Botswana.
I am also confident that when I return On October 31st, you will see a change in me........I am hoping for atleast 6lbs in wieght and a few inches round the waist, following the mandatory bout of Botswana Belly at some time during the trip!!
Thank you all so much again!!
