Story

Hi,

Fund raising for the paediatric intensive care unit of St Mary’s hospital, Paddington.

As some of you may know I have run a marathon in Connemara national park on the west coast of  on April 11th. I'm raising money for COSMIC (www.cosmiccharity.com) a small charity that means a great deal to my family and in particular my niece Xanthe Carter as it raises funds for the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at St Mary's hospital, Paddington.

The PICU at St Mary's is reliant on donations to ensure that it can continue to provide a truly amazing service. I have therefore set myself an ambitious target of raising £7,500 and I hope you can help me get me there by sponsoring me through my Just Giving site: http://www.justgiving.com/WilliamJameson.

Why am I raising money?

In February 2008, my niece Xanthe, at 9 months old, caught pneumococcal meningitis which caused her to suffer a major stroke. This caused serious brain damage and she was admitted into the PICU at St Mary's hospital and placed on a life support machine for 2 weeks.

Whilst the damage was permanent and the road ahead is going to be challenging, it was thanks mainly to the heroic and tireless work of the staff at St Mary's that Xanthe not only survived (itself a triumph) but she was discharged 7 weeks later from hospital and is now a happy, giggling 2 year old who loves being thrown around, tickled and flirting with the consultants. Watching the dedication, care and skill of the staff of St Mary's at work was simply awe inspiring.

St Mary's PICU specialises in care for children with acute life threatening infections such as toxic shock, meningitis, meningococcal septicaemia, bronchiolitis and pneumonia. Every year the unit treats around 500 desperately sick children. Without the specialist care they receive at St Mary's they would be unlikely to survive. Donations to COSMIC genuinely helps save lives.

My marathon

Thanks

Will
