Story
In 2009 my brother Rupert made a film called 'The End of Line' about how we were emptying the world's oceans of fish - and that we were in danger of emptying them forever.
The positive message at the end of the film, was that it wasn't too late, and that if we acted now, then the oceans could be saved.
The team who made the film did act, and set up the Blue Marine Foundation, which works to set up no-take and managed marine reserves around the world, working with governments, and critically, local fishermen, to learn how to manage their own fish stocks.
They have been incredibly successful, setting up the world's largest marine protected areas in the Chagos Islands and as well as critical schemes around the UK.
They are laser-focussed, incredibly efficient and very successful. It's a very effective way of spending money to help save the planet.
I am riding the last three days of this magnificent ride for the oceans, 350km across the Pyrenees, climbing 12,500 feet, and added with all the training, it's a total of 2000km of riding.
Although, this cycle ride may not be a superhuman feat of survival, the money Blue will raise, will have a profound effect on the ability of human race to survive on this planet.
