Story

This year I’m trading deck chair and swimming shorts for a ‘holiday’ that will be far more challenging – two weeks in helping adults & children orphaned by HIV/Aids. And I’m asking for your help. Please.

Who will I be helping?

Millions across have been left vulnerable as the result of HIV/Aids. In some cases kids as young as ten can find themselves the prime carers for a household – while living in extreme poverty at the same time.

The charity the Kiyita Family Alliance for Development (KIFAD) is doing fantastic work to support children like this and also to care for those who suffer and reduce infection. You can check them out at http://www.kifad.org/.

What will I be doing?

I’ll be there to increase the impact of their life-changing work. Nothing glamorous. Just pitching in on things like outreach into the local community, condom distribution, counselling and office administration.

I’m also going to take photographs that will help the charity I’m going with (Inter Cultural Youth Exchange) to help others see the value of volunteering.

What do I need you to do?

What would have been spent on a couple of weeks on a Costa is going to fund my flights and time. But there is still going to be a big short-fall. That’s not only due to the cost of flights and housing but to meet the overheads of the charities involved who supervise and enable volunteer visits like this.

As a result, I need to raise £1,400 in sponsorship to confirm my place. And that is where you come in!

You’re not just doing this for me. But for orphaned kids who, right now, have next to nothing. The warm and fuzzy feeling you’ll get when you do will be a nice bonus.

Thank you in anticipation for all your help your generosity

A very grateful

Zac
