Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My holiday this year is an 8 day Mount Kilimanjaro climb (I leave on the 11th Sept and return on 25th Sept) and I've decided to try and raise some money at the same time for charity.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres.  The total trek is just over 100km with an overall height gain of 4405 metres. If I'm successful it will take 6 days to climb the mountain and 2 days to descend- I hope that I'll still have some toe nails left at the end!!  I don't like the cold and it's going to be freezing on summit night.  We actually start the ascent at midnight and the temp could be as low as -25 with wind speeds of 75 mph!!  I'll be walking for between 12 and 15 hrs on that day.

I'm raising money for this year's GD Foundation charity - Derian House.  This is a children's hospice in Chorley that provides treatment and care to severely (and in some cases, terminally) ill children as well as much needed support to the parents, grandparents and siblings in their time of need.

George Davies Solicitors set up a charitable Foundation in order to provide much needed support to local charities and good causes. The Foundation is managed by the staff via a committee of a dozen or so staff members who are responsible for selecting the firm's nominated charity each year and then coordinating the fundraising efforts throughout the year.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
