Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Being a parent of two teenage children I want to offer this great charity my support. Mental health in teenagers is a taboo subject, children are suffering, and some are suffering in silence. The hardest challenge for these children is accepting they have a problem and taking that first step to get help. Where can they go?
Young People's Counselling Service (YPCS) is a non-government funded charity offering free, one-to one confidential counselling to young people aged between 11-16 across Cambridgeshire, Rutland & South Lincolnshire.
The counsellors are fully trained & qualified, a criterion that YPCS will not compromise. No one is turned away & referrals are accepted from concerned parents, health professionals or Young people requesting help.
Relying on charitable donations & organised fund-raising events, last year YPCS supported 158 children & worried parents.
Mental Health - the Reality
Half of all metal illnesses begin before the age of 14.
In the UK, 1 in 10 children have a diagnosable mental disorder.
75% of children with a diagnosed mental health condition do not get access to the correct treatment.
The average waiting time for the 1st appointment with the NHS is 6 months (nearly 10 months until treatment starts).
