Story
Quite unbelievably, for a girl whose motto is "If I have to run for a bus I'd rather miss it," I have volunteered to take part in the Women's 5k run this September. Running (or sudden movements of any variety, really) not being my forte, this poses a significant challenge to me despite the distance perhaps being not objectively that great. However, in the spirit of the event, I'm going to challenge myself to run the whole distance, and have even already started training (an entire lap of the local park, hurrah!)
The reason I'm making this unprecedented forray into running is to support Fawcett, the UK's leading campaign charity for gender equality. Far from having won all the important battles, feminism faces signifcant challenges in the 21st century: from the continued lack of equal pay for women, to the chronic under-representation of women in politics, and the shockingly low convictions resulting from rape cases. And the list could could go on. By sponsoring me, your money will help to support efforts to close the gaps between men and women, and make gender equality a reality.
So, please even if it is simply a couple of pounds, sponsor me and stand up for feminism.
I'll be sure to let you all know how I get along,
Ailsa xx
