Story
On July 11th I'm running the British 10K to raise money for The
Capital Community Foundation's Violence against Women Fund.
More than 40% of women in the UK have experienced some sort of violence in their lives and the cost to society is estimated at £40 billion per year. Violence against women takes many forms - domestic violence, rape and sexual assault, psychological abuse, trafficking, female genital mutilation and forced marriage. The impact is devastating with long term physical and emotional scars from which many never heal.
By sponsoring me, you can help to change the lives of those
affected, primarily here in London but also further afield.
All sponsorship is split between 7 projects across London that have been
doing incredible work in tackling abuse and supporting women.
IKWRO- To support survivors of honour related violence and campaign for changes in attitudes in the UK
Street Talk- To provide counseling, advice and holistic support for street prostitutes in the Kings Cross area
Eaves 'Sojourner' Project- To fund safe spaces for women with 'no recourse to public funds' who have suffered abuse.
HERA- To provide entrepreneurial training for trafficked women
Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre, Croydon- The only rape crisis centre in London- to run the telephone help line and counseling for anybody who has experienced sexual abuse.
TRYangle- To continue development of a programme working with male and female counterparts of domestic violence to break the cycle of abuse.
ROTA 'Female Voice in Violence' Project - To support research into the various roles of women in gang-related violence.
