Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Alex Reed and I am running the Great North Run on the 19th September 2010 to raise funds for the Amos Bursary.
What the Amos Bursary seeks to do is support and mentor British born African - Caribbean boys selected from schools across London, who have been identified as high achievers.
These students are the least likely group to go to or stay at university. If they secure university places; financial constraints, lack of parental knowledge of the system; families without a strong tradition of participation in higher education; general lack of understanding, in terms of what is required at degree level, all lead to high drop-out rates. The bursary aims to address the imbalances and support outstanding students through university, and help them to enter corporate professions within British society.
As well as financial support, the students are introduced to a peer mentor who is a young person who has recently completed University. A professional mentor provides the career guidance and exposure into the corporate world.
This is a great bursary so please sponsor me. Any amount of money will be gratefully received.
