Story
Hello All!
I have (stupidly) agreed to run in the 2008 Flora London Marathon! I will be running for Diabetes UK. Diabetes UK is the leading charity working for people with diabetes, funding research and helping people live with the condition. Their mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future without diabetes.
As most of you know, I have type 1 diabetes, and have had it since the age of 11. When I was first diagnosed with the disease it was an extremely difficult time for me. I almost died from the disease by the way, but unfortunately for your bank balance I didn't. Having to administer my own injections for the first time was both scary and painful. The support that I received from Diabetes UK since diagnosis has been amazing.

Name: Alex Gilkes
Occupation: Sit in front of a computer all day
Experience: Half marathon back in 2005. Also watched the whole of the 2007 London Marathon on television which is probably more painful than actually running in the race.
Qualifications: A in A level 'Sports Studies' a.k.a PE
Expectations: I will probably win the race, if not a respectable top 50,000 finish will do me!
