Story
On the 27th January I will be going to Pakistan for ten days, with Muslim Hands, to assist with the flood relief work. I have a fundraising target of £2,000 and all funds will go to the relief effort and helping the people affected by these devastating floods. I will be able to personally see where your money has gone and then show you personally how it was spent. I know that many of have already given to the Flood Appeal, but this winter millions of people in Pakistan will be homeless and still need our help! I am asking you to please dig deep and give generously!

Pakistan Floods: An Overview
Five months after the floods, the people of Pakistan are still rebuilding their lives. As we move onto the second phase of relief work, Muslim Hands is now focussing on recovery and rebuilding work.
How far we’ve come
In the aftermath of the floods, MH relief efforts provided over 36,1449 people with food parcels and cooked meals over what has perhaps been the most difficult Ramadan Pakistan has faced in decades. 15 MH Medical Centres treated 500 patients a day while 10 mobile clinics scoured the country to reach isolated villages. We distributed up to 30,000 basic essential packs including blankets, hygiene kits and Jerry cans. Our water filtration plants provided clean water for survivors at the risk of waterborne infections, and we’ve built 8,553 tents.
Where we are
Though a need for food and water still remains, we are now focusing our efforts on medical support and shelter in particular. We know that over 1.8 million homes have been lost, and as the colds begin to set in, a bitter winter now faces the flood survivors of Pakistan. In consultation with the Pakistan government and Union Councils (boroughs), MH has identified areas where we will be focusing our rebuilding efforts. We have begun laying foundations in some of the most vulnerable areas, but there is still much work to be done
Where we’re headed
In January 2011, MH UK staff and volunteers will be travelling to Pakistan to boost the recovery and rebuilding efforts. The funds you raise will go towards the MH re-housing project, and your presence on the ground will help raise awareness and support our work.
One transitional mud-brick home costs £450 and takes 3 weeks to build. The cost of a permanent concrete home starts from £950 and saves us having to re-house families at a later date.
