We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Karen's Story

Thanks for visiting my Race for Life page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online - it's quick, easy and totally secure.

Cancer is cruel and indiscriminate and in the last few years too many of my closest friends and family have been affected. Some we have sadly lost while others continue their brave fight against this terrible disease.

In August 2013 I lost my beautiful and brave mum to Pancreatic Cancer. After her initial diagnosis in 2011, the operation and agressive chemo treatment appeared to be successful and we were hopeful that she would be one of the miracle 2.9% to survive.

She never lost her positivity and determination to live and enjoy life to the full and when the cancer returned in January she again bravely battled to the last to spend the most time she could with her family. She is my hero and I miss her every day.

The hardest thing I have ever gone through is sitting down in a hospital clutching hold of my parents hands and hearing a doctor say there is nothing they can do.  So I am taking part in the Race for Life in memory of my mum, with the hope that any money we raise means that someone else doesn't have to listen to those words. Every step Cancer Research UK takes towards beating cancer relies on every pound, every hour and every person.

Alison's Story

I decided to take part in the Race for Life as too many people dear to me have lost their life to cancer. A few lucky ones have survived including my mum from Breast Cancer, but too many have died, including Karen's mum, my Uncle and my God-Parents eldest son and my old Boss. I saw this as a challenge, never having run a race before, to get myself fit (with proper training and preparation) and whilst doing so raise money for a brilliant, deserving cause. I was recently told to succeed in life you need goals to aim for. This is my goal.

Events like Race for Life are vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring us, we can unite and create a force that cancer can't ignore.

Gift Aid it!

If you're a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box as this will increase your donation by at least 25% at no cost to you.

Sponsor us now, and we can become cancer's worst nightmare.

One day we will beat cancer. Help us make it sooner!
