We support, research and campaign to help people affected by coeliac disease.

Story

Thank you, thank you very much. I DID IT. I ran 13.1 miles up and down the fabulous Las Vegas Strip on Sunday 5th December.

It was thoroughly exhausting both emotionally and physically but it was one of the best life experiences I have ever had and I enjoyed every minute and would do it again tomorrow !

Your support and donations drove me on and it will make a huge difference to the lives of people who suffer from Coeliac Disease.

If you would like a copy of my race report please let me know.

I got married in Las Vegas in December 2000 and 10 years later I am returning - and even taking the same wife back with me!

To save me gambling the house away (again), this time I am going to join over 25,000 runners (including various Elvi and a few showgirls hopefully!) and run a half marathon of 13.1 miles up and down the fabulous Las Vegas strip and try to raise some money for my chosen charity - Coeliac UK.

Their mission is to improve the lives of people with coeliac disease through support, campaigning and research.

My son Elliot was diagnosed with coeliac disease in June 2008. When he first got ill we thought it was a normal nursery school bug but after months of illness, vomiting, diarrhoea, weight loss and countless trip to doctors and hospitals, he was finally diagnosed with coeliac disease. 'Silly-what?' I said.

I knew nothing about it but it's an auto-immune disease, where the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. This immune reaction is triggered by gluten, a type of protein found in wheat, rye and barley. There is currently no cure and the only option is a lifelong change of diet (but just have a look at any food label to see how difficult it is to avoid gluten!). It affects 1 in 100 people, although many are undiagnosed, and it can lead to osteoporosis, infertility and certain cancers.

Ever penny you can give will help sufferers - I'll do the training if you can please donate some money to the charity. Please tick the Gift Aid - the Government gives some extra money to the charity that they would only spend on expenses otherwise.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to donate some money offline, I will forward this onto Coeliac UK on your behalf.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH EVERYONE !
