Story
Hi Everyone
Thanks for coming to my page. I'm just back from a very early swim and feeling extremely moved and motivated to raise lots of money for the Cobalt Unit. The most lovely gentleman helped me out at the pool this morning with my enquiry about whether I could swim in my cycling shorts, etc, turns out his Mother died of cancer earlier this year, he himself has recently recovered from testicular cancer and not only that but he also lost a young friend (aged 32) to breast cancer. It's everywhere and so very cruel and I want to help especially as two of my nearest and dearest friends have suffered cancer along with my Nan who sadly passed away last year, both Rach and Lis are fully recovered and loving life thank goodness - so lets do something to make sure that more people recover and get a chance to live their lives to the full :-)
The Cobalt Appeal is a local medical charity that has played a huge part in establising the Cheltenham Oncology unit with the NHS, this unit cares for people with cancer in Gloucestershire. They also opened a state of the art diagnostics centre in Cheltenham in 2006, the centre houses Gloucesterhire's first Positron Emission Tomography (PET) CT scanner which aids doctors in early diagnosis and the location of cancers.
After climbing Kilimanjaro with Rach four years ago we said we'd do something big every 5 years. That said we've not planned anything as life gets busy and time runs away with you. So, I have entered my very first triathlon and am doing it to raise money for the Cobalt to support my local commnunity and to give something back as I never seem to manage to attend their fundraising events after committing myself personally to raising money back in 2005 when we took on Africa's challange that is Kili!
So, without further ado, the triathlon is on Sat Jul 25th. I shall be aiming to complete the event in less than an hour of which comprises a 400m swim (eeeek - I could barely swim one length front crawl in Jan!), a 10k bike ride and a 2.5k run. All sounds ok til you put it together ....! So, I shall give it my all if you might just be kind enough to dig deep and support me by sponsoring me to do this event? No amount is too small, please don't feel pressured to donate but if you can spare a pound or two I'd be really grateful.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Please dig deep and donate now and I'll do my best on the day to get round in one piece :-)
Many Thanks in advance
