Story

After the great success of the 2009 Rowathon we are pleased to confirm that 2011 will see Ampleforth Abbey and College, in association with the College’s charity fundraising arm, FACE-FAW, host its second Rowathon in the St Alban’s Sports Centre to raise money for Hope and Homes for Children.

The event will take place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th March and is open to all - members of the public, students, teachers, the local community and monks. The event has been generously sponsored by Concept 2, Denison Till and BPIRecycled Products.

The overall challenge is to row the distance between Ampleforth and the Hope and Homes for Children projects in Romania – approximately 2,500km in total!  Participating rowers will be able to contribute to this journey through a variety of events, suited to all ages and standards.

By completing this challenge, we hope to raise in excess of £30,000 to support the ongoing work of Hope and Homes for Children and specifically to provide care for 60 families for an entire year.  We can only achieve this target with your help.  Please consider joining us on this very special journey and supporting us in any way you can.  It promises to be a tough, competitive but exciting and fun-filled challenge for people of all ages and we look forward to sharing it with you.  Spectators are welcome throughout the weekend where there will be a variety of refreshments and entertainment on offer.

Every single penny we raise will make a difference to lives, by just raising £30 you could pay for a child’s school fees for a year and ensure that they get access to this basic human right and the chance of a much brighter future. What better gift could there be!

For further details of the events taking place over the weekend, please contact cee@ampleforth.org.uk or telephone 01439 766777.

Thank you for your support!
