Update 27th May
3 hrs 25 mins 21 secs - cold and windy at the start - sunny at the end - a grand day out.
Thanks to everyone for the sponsorship - over the last few miles to the finish it certainly helped to think about what I was running for.
Researchers have said that a cure for Parkinson’s could be found within five years. The Cure Parkinson’s Trust, via its fund raising arm 'Movers & Shakers', aims to make that tangible, by raising £2.5 million over five years.
Movers & Shakers was the name adopted by a group of high profile individuals with Parkinson’s disease who originally hosted a fund raising dinner at the Mansion House in 2004 for research into Parkinson’s disease. This group went on to found The Cure Parkinson’s Trust, a new charity that is dedicated to finding a cure for this crippling degenerative neurological condition.
As I am well aware, to the person with Parkinson's for whom I'm running this race, a simple trip to the shops can require the mental determination and effort that I might use in the marathon. Whilst I'm pounding the streets of Edinburgh I know they'll be doing their own, daily, marathon effort, and whilst mine ends at the finish line in Musselborough their's carries on. So please either sponsor me, or them, so that we can help towards finding a cure.
By sponsoring me in the 2008 Edinburgh Marathon you will be helping CPT towards achieving its goal. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Cure Parkinson's Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now!
And the target amount - that equals £50 for every mile I cover on the day!
Many thanks for your support.
