Story
Hello good people!
Thank you for having a look at our page. We were hoping the flying cats would lure you in.
We know some of you might not believe it, but we are both training for a 10K run on October 20th! We are fundraising for the wonderful work of Room to Heal, a small grassroots therapeutic community supporting survivors of torture, trafficking and human rights abuses.
Room to Heal is a place where asylum seekers and refugees can restore trust after violence, and start to rebuild their lives as they recover from trauma. It is a community where fellow survivors can meet and support each other, where solidarity is a tool for healing, and where people can form an alternative type of family.
Room to Heal's unique approach of therapeutic support and casework assistance means that survivors are supported both through their recovery from trauma, but also with the concrete issues they are faced with when they reach the UK; in the current political climate of hostility, disbelief and prohibitive immigration policies, survivors are often faced with destitution, homelessness, and the threat of detention and deportation.
Room to Heal also provides a range of social activities, including weekly community meals and gatherings, workshops, and a weekly therapeutic gardening project.
Please help us raise money so that Room to Heal can continue to provide its crucial services to asylum seekers and refugees.
Where the money you raise could go:
£1,450 would pay for all therapeutic and casework support for a torture survivor for a year, enabling a member to take great steps towards rebuilding their life in exile
£150 pays for a group therapy session for up to ten members to deal with the legacy of torture
£40 pays for a community meal after a group gardening session - so that our members can come out of isolation and find enjoyment in life again
£20 pays for an hour one-to-one casework appointment, to help someone avoid homelessness or find a lawyer
£5 pays for a member to travel to a therapy or casework session

If you've met us before, you know running isn't quite our passion (or our forte), but we've decided to challenge ourselves whilst supporting the important work of Room to Heal.
Please donate, tell your friends, and make us feel good about signing up for something that might make us never want to move again.
Thank you everyone, your support is much appreciated!
