Story

This page is in memory of Anthony Joseph Sidoli, born on 19th March 1942. Sadly after battling a very rare form of cancer his life ended on Thursday 26th August 2010.

Anthony (known as Tony to many) will be remembered and missed in many ways ~ a loving man, a caring son, a reliable brother a dedicated father and grandfather. He gave many years to the police force and MCA and had a passion for acting. He had many hobbies and friends and most will remember his unforgetable sense of humour. Throughout many operations and gruelling radiotherapy and chemotherapy his charm and wit never left him.

Sarcomas are cancers of connective tissue, they are very rare. They account for 1% of all cancer diagnosis.  Donations will be used for development of more effective treatment and care for patients with soft tissue sarcomas.

My dad asked me to research and organise a way in which we can help the Sarcoma Trust so that instead of adorning his graveside with expensive flowers we can in his memory help to make some progress.

Thanks for taking the time to visit Dad's memorial page.

Karina.

I have added extracts from a letter received from a dear friend of dads, Bob Thorn ~ it made me smile

I first met Tony when I joined the MCA in 1998. I soon found that we were similar in outlook, character and career experience both having recently retired from our respective police forces. The nature of our work meant that we accompanied each other when we had official visits all over the country.  On the long car journeys we would reminisce about our times as Detectives.  I learnt over the years that Tony was a bit of a tight sod when it came to buying drinks and so we entered into an unspoken challenge of who could get to the bar last.  On several occasions I had to resort to quick thinking such as "Oh Tony I've left my wallet in my room I am just going to get it, mine's a lager while your're there". After both our retirements we would keep in touch and meet up once or twice a year at a nice pub. We would have a leisurely lunch and a couple of drinks, each paying for our own meals.  Our last such meeting was on 30th June this year, on one of Tony's good days, during his first period of chemo.  The effects of the treatment were clear to see including the usual loss of hair. He wore a straw hat as it was a very hot day and we sat at a table by the river. He raised his hat to show me the lack of his jet black hair to which I told him that "I had noticed that the shares in Grecian 2000 had gone down". He appreciated the black humour as this was the nearest to sympathy he would get from a fellow ex cop. I ordered and paid for both our meals and after a couple of hours when we were about to leave he offered to pay his share of the bill. I told him "no you can pay next time when we meet in September".  Sadly Tony died 3 weeks before we were due to meet again, the sod he's out flanked me again and got away with a free meal. I bet he's looking down now and having a good chuckle about this. I will miss our ten year friendship.
