A South Atlantic Stroll (trans-Falklands walk) · 2 October 2016

Falklands Conservation is the largest membership based conservation charity in the Islands. We work on behalf of our members and in partnership with the local and international community to conserve the Falklands natural environment, through practical conservation, advocacy and community outreach.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am a glaciologist, Polar Regions guide and lover of wilderness areas, and the Falkland Islands are one of the most memorably wild places that I have ever visited. They are difficult to reach, and are therefore perhaps not as well known as they could be, but despite their remoteness they house a truly striking and uniquely South Atlantic ecosystem of marine, coastal and moorland biota.

Tourism is a growth industry in the Falklands, and so awareness of their biological heritage is growing. But, like so many other parts of the world the ecology of these islands faces growing environmental pressure stemming from a range of sources.

To protect the flora and fauna of their archipelago the Falkland Islanders need as much publicity and support as possible, and it is my aim to assist in this by walking across the islands, writing about my experience in doing so and raising funds for Falklands Conservation as I go. If you'd like to help me do this then you've come to the right place. The seals, whales, penguins and porpoises of the Falkland Islands will appreciate every penny! :-)

Thanks for your interest and support!
