When I first heard about Help for Heroes and the Big Battlefield Bike Ride I knew this was the one for me.

As you may know my nephew David was injured in Iraq and made a good recovery at Selly Oak hospital and then Headley Court. My brother Mike also benefited from Headley Court many moons ago when he was injured whilst in the Royal Fleet Auxilliary. Headley Court is the only rehabilitation centre designated for the Services. In a normal hospital the sound of a dropping bedpan maybe a faint embarrassment or mildly amusing,  to a soldier it could be an explosion or the rocket that killed his/her pal and injured him. This is just one example of why a specialist hospital is so important. It is hard to believe Headley Court does not already have its own hydrotherapy pool. The work that Headley Court does maximises the opportunity to regain as much Independence as is possible.

To be out on my bike is a joy, I love the buzz it gives me. By doing this ride I hope to say a small thankyou to both patients and staff for what they have done and will continue to do in the future.
