Story
9 colleagues from Bank of Scotland, Energy, Telecoms & Credit Sanctioning are heading to Uganda in February 2009 on a housebuilding mission as part of a community development project. We will be working with Watoto, which is a charitable organisation who build homes to cater for children who have lost their family or are vulnerable for many reasons. Watoto children live in a family so that they will learn how to love and respect their mother and siblings. This allows them to grow up knowing the value of a healthy functional family.
Watoto villages include clusters of homes, a nursery school, a kindergarten, primary school, high school, vocational training centre, water project, medical clinic and a multi-purpose hall for use as a church and as a community centre. Villages are a familiar traditional dwelling for many ethnic groups in Africa.
Watoto’s motto is ‘Rescue a Child, Raise a Leader, Rebuild a Nation’. It’s a hugely exciting and worthwhile project to be a part of and your contribution will help enormously.
Our initial fundraising target was £17,000 which is the cost of building 1 home. Due to the amazing generosity of those who have already donated we have now revised our target and are hoping to try and raise sufficient funds that would cover the cost of building 2 homes. If this revised target is not achieved the additional funds will be donated to Watoto's General fund.
The General Fund is used to meet the most pressing needs that are not covered by established programs such as the Watoto Sponsor a LIFE and build Programs. They include basic items such as baby feeding equipment and medical supplies to larger items including transportation vehicles.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. And if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you for your support!
