We raise funds and awareness in the UK to deliver conservation in Galapagos

Story

Hello!

Cheers for visiting my justgiving fundraising page, "The Tortoise and the Hair", through which I hope to raise £500 for the Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT).

The GCT is a UK registered charity set up to raise funds for the conservation needs of the Galápagos Islands.  GCT supports a diverse range of projects in the Galapagos, including shark research, saving the critically endangered Floreana mockingbird and of course the Tortoise breeding program to list just a few. The Galapagos Islands need your support! Population growth, unregulated development, climate change, the introduced/invasive species and illegal fishing are all threatening the fragile and unique ecosystems found only on these islands.

Having seen firsthand all of the hard work put into the GCT by the staff and volunteers, I’m hoping to give them a bit of support by raising some extra funds through donations from you lot for running the Berlin Marathon.

I haven’t entered a marathon before so expect that it will prove to be an interesting and no doubt painful experience.  It may be much more "tortoise" than "hare" on the day

As for the "hair", on a whim whilst among the hardy blokes in Alaska earlier in the year, I decided to grow a bit of a beard, and figured that I might as well keep it until the marathon.  There was some consideration of going for the full Forest Gump look but I’m not sure how well that would have gone down with some parties…

So, down to business; I will be plodding along the 42km marathon course in Berlin in a few weeks time on the 20th of September and am looking for support from everyone to help make it a worthwhile event.  Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me, but I can also accept donations directly which I can then submit myself through this system if that is easier for you.  If you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me! You know the tortoise will beat the hair at the end of the day and plod triumphantly across the finish line. Sadly after the marathon, the facial gingafro has to go....  Well that’s what I’ve been told at least.

Thanks for your support!

Cheers

Brett
