Story

Post event update...I completed my third London Marathon in a time of 4 hours, 44 minutes and 40 seconds.  A desperate and painful sprint finish prevented me acheiving all the fours!  Despite having done the marathon before, I had totally forgotten how horribly painful it is running all that way.  The heat didn't really help and I spent lots of time tripping over people who had gone off too fast and were walking (I ran the whole thing).

Huge thanks to my family, friends, colleagues and husband who have been so amazing in supporting me.  I had some brilliant cheers on the day (prize for loudest and most epic cheer goes to my Mum at 24 miles.  My God I needed that) and wonderful support from some very fit colleagues in my race preparations.

Big thanks also to my aunt Judy who instead of presents for her 60th birthday asked for donations and will be adding them to the pot.  Happy Birthday Judy!  I am so glad to be able to support Maggie and her amazing work through the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund in this way.

Thanks everyone for your support - bring on the next challenge!

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.  This is my third London Marathon and is so far proving to be the most challenging.  Family weddings (including my own) have meant that my mind hasn't been totally on the job, plus moving to Cornwall has meant that I have no choice but to train up some mammoth hills - total hell for a Londoner whose previous experience of hills was running up Westminster Bridge and down the other side.

This year I am running for The Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund who are doing a wonderful job to fund research into this particularly horrid form of cancer, operating on very small overheads and with limited resources.  Please see http://www.pcrf.org.uk for more details on their fantastic work.

Several people I know have recently been fighting this disease, including my own Grandad who died in September only 10 days after his diagnosis.  Only 3% of individuals diagnosed with this disease will survive more than 5 years (this compares to 80% for breast cancer and childhood leukaemia).  Shockingly, a lack of funding for research has meant that this statistic is the same as it was 40 years ago.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is the only national charity dedicated solely to beating pancreatic cancer through research. Survival rates are low, so new research is vital. In the past, this cancer received little attention. With your help, we can change this so more people beat pancreatic cancer.
