Story

Saving Lives in Rural Scotland

For many years, three charity organisations have worked together to provide specialist education, vital equipment and the delivery of pre-hospital emergency care in remote and rural locations in Scotland.

Who are we?

We are remote and rural clinicians who are highly trained and specialised to perform life-saving pre-hospital emergency care. We are proud to provide a vital link within the ‘chain of survival’ and have a proven track record of effective delivery.

This year, we want to highlight and celebrate the joint achievements of our charities.

The Sandpiper Trust SC031165 , BASICS Scotland SC030189, and The Rural GPs Association of Scotland SC053200 are raising awareness and would like to generate essential funding to make sure that we are there for you in future.

In July, we will cycle, run and sea kayak, 1000 km.

Beginning on July 4, at Stornoway, Western Isles, we will take a Sandpiper bag and travel across to the Isle of Skye, then over to Ullapool, and head for Thurso, (via Applecross) and then, by RNLI lifeboat to Kirkwall, Orkney - in time for the Orkney Island Games which start on July 12th.

A bit more about our organisations can be found by following the links above. Please consider giving a donation - it all helps. Thank you.

You could even be a fundraiser yourself using the button at the top of the page!

Our very own Dr Charlie Siderfin appeared on BBC Reporting Scotland recently, to explain about the Sandpiper Bags, their contents, and how they are used to save lives.

Shadowing the relay route...

‘Dr Finlay I Presume’ is an exhibition looking at how rural healthcare has changed over the last 25 years since the book ‘Single Handed’ was published in 1999.

The book and the exhibition were developed as collaborations between the Royal College of General Practitioners and the University of Dundee.

Everyone welcome - or if you are unable to view in person, here is a snippet for you.
