Story
Ten years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. I had a six week old premature baby and was told my chances of surviving the next two years were 40%. I'm incredibly thankful to be here 10 years later and especially grateful that, through Shine, I've been able to work with young adults with cancer across the UK.
30,000 adults aged 25 to 49 are diagnosed with cancer every year. That's 10 times the number of children and teenagers but this group gets very little specific attention or support - despite a lot of specific needs related to mental health, fertility, work, and family.
Since 2012, we've been working to change that and Shine Cancer Support is the only charity in the UK that focuses on those in their 20s, 30s or 40s who are diagnosed with cancer. Shine does amazing work on a tiny budget and it would be great to raise some much needed funds and ensure that Shine can support more young adults with cancer than ever before.
