Story
Suicide is a serious public health concern. Each year on September 10th, we observe World Suicide Prevention Day a day to remember and mourn the estimated 4,000 individuals lost to suicide each year in Canada, and to remind others that you are not alone, that help, hope and healing are possible.
In 2016, CMHA-WECB, along with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and many other community partners, observed our first annual Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, including a community walk. As a result, a Suicide Prevention Coalition was formed in 2017, comprised of leaders from various sectors of the community, committed to reviewing effective models for change and implementing actions that demonstrate results as we work toward a Suicide Safer Community.
We now observe a month of Suicide Awareness activities, including an annual walk to provide education, support and come together as a community to say "you are NOT alone".
