Story

This summer, weโ€™re raising funds to support four amazing Kanaama programmes, and weโ€™d love your help! Whether you sponsor a friend, take part in an event, or set up your own fundraising page, every pound goes directly to the work on the ground in Uganda.

So far weโ€™ve got:

๐ŸŽ‰ A 60km walk to celebrate the 60th birthday of one of our trustees

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ Three places in the Big Half marathon in London on 7 September 2025

๐Ÿ“š 1. Helping Kids Stay in School

We support 60 primary and 3 secondary students with everything they need to attend school: uniforms, pencils, exercise books, meals, and help with fees. Since 2013, 177 children have taken part, and many are now proudly holding school certificates they never imagined possible. One of our students told us:

Being in school every day has helped me do better in class. Iโ€™ve even made it into the top five!โ€

๐Ÿ’ผ 2. Boosting Womenโ€™s Business Skills

Many women in Kanaama run small businesses to support their families, whether selling snacks and vegetables or running cafรฉs and grocery stalls. We provide training in budgeting, planning and exploring new markets. We also offer access to loans through microcredit and village savings groups. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

One participant shared:

I used to sell baskets and shoes but struggled to grow. Training showed me how to find better places to sell. Now, my business is doing much better.โ€

๐ŸŒพ 3. Growing More, Together

Most families in the region grow food for their own homes. Crops include maize, beans, peanuts and more. We help farmers boost their harvests and sell any surplus through collective platforms to get better prices. Simple changes like crop storage and group selling make a huge difference. As one farmer said:

I used to run out of food before harvest time. I'm growing more and storing it properly now, so I have enough to eat and sell.โ€

โœ๏ธ 4. Adult Literacy & Life Skills

Reading, writing and basic maths can be life-changing. Since 2015, weโ€™ve run adult literacy classes for women who want to manage money, grow businesses and gain confidence. ๐Ÿ“–

One learner told us:

Classes showed me how to understand the weighing scale better ... Now, no one can cheat me!โ€

๐ŸŒŸ Your support makes this possible. Whether itโ€™s a donation, setting up your own JustGiving page or cheering on our fundraisers, thank you! Every action helps create opportunity and dignity through grassroots community work.
