Story
Once again, over the summer, we’re raising funds to support Kanaama’s projects, and we’d love your help! Whether you sponsor a friend, take part in an event, or set up your own fundraising page, every pound goes directly to our work in Uganda.
1. Helping Children Stay in School
We support 60 primary and 3 secondary students from poor vulnerable families with everything they need to attend school: uniforms, pencils, exercise books, meals, and help with charges levied by the schools. Since 2013, 184 children have taken part, and many now hold a primary leaving certificate they never imagined possible. One of our new students told us:
I am very happy and grateful to KICS Uganda for giving us books, pens, shoes, bags, and other school materials. These items will help me study well and attend school this term. My mother couldn’t afford to give them to me before, so I could not attend.
We have also started a new menstrual health project which empowers girls to attend school during their periods, with information and period kits. Truly transforming.
2. Breakfast Club
Children cannot be expected to study when they are hungry. Our daily cup of maize porridge helps children to concentrate and is improving their educational outcomes. Headteachers say it is also attracting back to school children who have dropped out and keeping others at school.
3. Empowering Women through Literacy Learning
Many women in Kashare missed out on school like Immaculate. Now she is one of 120 women who have the chance to learn to read, and she is loving every minute. She said
Attending the literacy classes has been one of the most important opportunities in my life. Before, I could not read or write. Today, I can understand basic written information, identify people calling me on my phone, and participate more confidently in my community. I am truly grateful to KICS Uganda for giving me this opportunity.
Immaculate’s course finishes in January 2027.
4. Supporting women’s businesses
Access to credit is a life blood of economies. Small loans can help women grow their businesses which directly helps their families. Our microcredit programme is supporting over 120 women a year to become entrepreneurs.
🌟 Your support makes this possible. Whether it’s a donation, setting up your own JustGiving page or cheering on our fundraisers, thank you! Every action helps create opportunity and dignity through grassroots community work.
