Story
Please help me raise funds for Kanaama’s projects in rural southwest Uganda so that more women and children can learn and thrive.
This fundraiser will help Kanaama’s women’s literacy project which I have seen for myself. It is life changing for the learners.
Groups of 30 women learn together with two facilitators over 18 months, meeting for 2 hours each week. It is wonderful to see the transformation. Women gain confidence, make new friends and literacy opens doors to civic life and new business opportunities. The first thing is that women can read the contacts on their (Nokia) phones without having to ask someone else to do it. And, like us, people rely on their phones for other things, like making payments ('mobile money' is big in Uganda) so the numeracy part of the course really helps them.
I'm going to walk the 39 miles of the Rothschild Way from Wicken Fen to Woodwalton Fen in Cambridgeshire with wonderful friend Helen over two days in August. Not hilly, but we'll need all Helen's map reading skills to keep us on the right path and our feet dry. Laurie and Reuben will be on hand too.
Together, we can make a big difference. Thank you for being part of this.
