Story

We’re raising £20,000 to mark 20 years of Diverse City.

For 20 years, we’ve been making bold, inclusive work and supporting artists to create, grow and lead.

Now, we’re inviting people to be part of what comes next.

Whether you’re setting up a fundraiser or supporting someone who is, this is a way to get involved.

What this is

20k for 20 Years is a collective fundraising campaign.

It’s a way for our team, artists, partners and supporters to get involved — by doing something that raises money for the work.

People are taking part in their own way: running, hosting, creating, gathering and fundraising however feels right for them.

Why it matters

The performing arts still don’t reflect the real world. Talent exists everywhere — but opportunity doesn’t.

Diverse City exists to change that — supporting artists to take part, be seen and be heard, and helping shape a more inclusive future for the performing arts.

What your support helps make possible

Your fundraising helps us make work in real, practical ways — from early development and residencies through to sharing and touring.

It can help cover:

>technical equipment and production costs

>travel and accommodation for artists and teams

>the additional access support needed to make work genuinely inclusive

It also supports something less visible, but just as important — giving artists the time, space and support to develop work properly.

Real Stories

Harry Bassett is one of the artists we’ve worked with — developing his creative practice as a composer, musical director and performer.

Through working with Diverse City, he’s been able to explore new ideas and approaches to making work.

Working with Diverse City changed what I thought was possible — not just for me, but for the work.

—Composer, Musical Director, and Performer Harry Bassett

Your support helps create work where access isn’t separate — it’s built into the creative process, and artists shape the work itself.

In Mid Life, 2025, Jacqui Beckford wasn’t interpreting from the side — she was in the show, telling her story. That’s real, integrated access.

After a performance, an audience member said:

I felt seen in a way I haven’t before — like this story was finally for me.

Jess Skelton joined us as a young artist with a passion for performance.

Through training, mentoring and opportunities to create and lead, she’s grown into a professional artist — performing across the UK, choreographing work, and taking on paid roles in the sector.

I feel a lot more confident now because of my experience… I want to continue choreographing and finding new opportunities.

Your support helps create pathways like this — supporting artists to grow, step forward and build sustainable creative careers.

Not sure what to do?

You can take part in whatever way feels right for you — big or small, solo or with others.

>walk, wheel, dance or move in a way that works for you

>host a dinner, party, sharing or relaxed gathering

>create something — a performance, workshop or creative moment

>do something connected to the number 20

>bring people together and fundraise as a group

Make it work for you — creative, flexible and your own.

You don’t need a big plan — a simple idea, shared well, can make a real difference.

Good luck — we can’t wait to see what you do.

However you choose to take part — we’re cheering you on.
