Story
I created this fundraiser through passion but also fear. I was afraid that more young girls would be perceived as delusional whenever they addressed their mental health. A survey in 2024 revealed that, out of 2000 women, a third were asked if they were “overthinking things,”:
22% feared being seen as 'attention seeking'
20% were asked if they were on their period and
The survey found that 27% of the women were told their issues could be 'just hormones'
This campaign is for all women and girls who, like me, have had their genuine mental health problems dismissed. This project was born from lived experience, and the fundraiser attached will raise vital funds for young women’s mental health. Be Free Campaign’s work addresses these issues and aims to combat them with early intervention mental health support and education.
27 runners will have 27 days to complete 27km, sounds simple doesn’t it? It’s also powerful. This is for the 27% of women that have had their problems dismissed as ‘just hormones’. It’s time we spoke about this, because change is needed to save lives.
Each runner will also have a £27 fundraising target. The £729 total fundraising goal will not only go towards vital early intervention work, but also vital education and campaigns highlighting these issues.
Because if not me, who?
Because if not us, who?’
