After a successful first year, the 5K Across the Bay open water swim is returning for 2024.

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity in partnership with Sureswim Kernow and this year, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, will run the event on Sunday 8th September with the route stretching across the waters of Falmouth Bay.

The charity, non-commercial event, will take place with thanks to local surf life saving clubs and local volunteers giving their time in support.

Swimmers, who must be experienced open water swimmers, will choose from supporting Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, in which case funds will support staff wellbeing at the NHS Trust.

“During the pandemic, the importance of NHS staff wellbeing was really pushed to the forefront of people’s minds and today there is no less importance on their health and wellbeing and the impact it has not only on themselves, but also on the care they are able to provide to our growing local population,” said Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager, Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity.

“Funds raised through the swim will enable additional support for our staff. This could be through training an army of mental health first aiders to recognise and help colleagues in need, or to provide much needed team building and away days that have an incredible connective and restorative effect.”
