The Wilderness Programme is a registered UK charity providing a residential, non-medical mental health recovery programme specifically designed for adult individuals over the age of 21 years to meet the needs of those coming to terms with, or in recovery of issues such as addictions, professional burn out, stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health related problems. The programme also facilitates those who are struggling with aspects of life such as low self esteem, low confidence, feeling lost or lacking direction.

Story

This unique event is being run to help raise awareness and funds for The Wilderness Programme to help people in the long term recovery of mental health related problems.

Ascent Information

Start/finish: Buttermere Base Camp

Length: 22.8 km / 14.0 miles

Ascent: 1758 metres / 5800 feet

Grade: Hard

Target time: 10 hours

What You Need To Know:

This is a strenuous walk that presents no technical difficulties. The walk starts and ends at the village of Buttermere, which is situated on the shores of the lake with the same name.

The event starts from the Buttermere Dubs footbridge and then takes the stone stepped path through Burntness Wood and up to Bleaberry Tarn before climbing the path to The Saddle and ascending Red Pike.

It then continues along the ridge taking in High Stile and High Crag before descending the steep slopes of Gamlin End to Scarth Gap where we start our ascent to the twin summits of Haystacks.

From Haystacks the path descends past Innominate Tarn and Blackbeck Tarn affording a superb view towards Green Gable, Great Gable and the mighty summit of Scafell Pike.

The ‘6 Peaks Charity Challenge for Mental Health’ event takes place on the 21st September 2024 with participants arriving the day before.

Each participant is asked to raise a minimum of £500.00 to be donated to The Wilderness Programme.

What’s Included:

Event Registration, Two Nights Camping in Buttermere, Return transfers by road from Penrith Station to Buttermere, All Meals, Snacks & Refreshments including Celebratory Meal on the challenge day, Mountain Guides, First Aid, Radio & Safety Cover, Vehicle Support, Public Liability Insurance.

What’s Not Included:

Personal Accident insurance, Outdoor Clothing or Equipment, Tents, Camping Equipment, Sleeping Bags/ Overnight Kit.
