COVID-19 Shouldn't Stop People From Fulfilling Their Potential
Every year students return to schools and universities. This year is different. The pandemic has exposed inequalities in how we access education: not everyone has the equipment they need for remote learning, the ability to return home easily, or personal funds to support them when circumstances suddenly change.
At Ashinaga UK, Scholars have just arrived from countries all across Africa to begin their degrees in a new country and in an uncertain time. Current Scholars are also facing challenges: beginning their new academic years through remote and socially-distanced learning, under threat of further lockdowns.
Ashinaga UK Scholars come from sub-Saharan African countries, the region with the lowest rates of university enrolment in the world just 9% of people aged between 18 and 23. They have lost one or both parents, and have already overcome enormous challenges to study at world-class UK universities. Our mission is to equip the Scholars with the education, skills and connections they need to return home and tackle the big issues facing their communities.
This October, Join Our Access to Education for All Campaign
Our fundraising campaign supports incoming and current students as they begin the new academic year in a challenging and uncertain global setting.
All money raised will go towards providing essential funding, set up costs, and emergency grants to Scholars. These will enable them to purchase equipment required for remote studying and will help them prepare for the challenges and instability brought on by the pandemic.
Money raised will be matched by a partner, meaning that for every pound you raise we receive two pounds, or even more if you are a UK tax-payer and are eligible for gift aid.
