Story

We are making an urgent appeal to raise funds to provide counselling services to people both online and in-house

Self reported levels of anxiety and depression in the North East are significantly higher than national levels with deprivation identified as a contributing factor (North Tyneside Council, 2018)

Additionally , both North Tyneside and the wider North East region have lower levels of self -reported wellbeing which is a risk factor for mental ill health.

There is a higher estimated prevalence of common mental health disorders amongst over 16s within the North East (compared to the national average) (Public Health England, 2017) with both North Tyneside and the wider North East Region having higher instances of long term mental health problems (Public Health England 2017/18).

Hospital admissions for mental health conditions are higher than the national average in both North Tyneside and the wider North East Region (Public Health England, 2018).

Attendance at A&E by people with psychiatric disorders are significantly higher than the borough and national average within North Tyneside with early deaths in adults with Serious Mental Illness also higher than national averages (North Tyneside Council, 2017).

Both North Tyneside an d the wider North East region experience rate s of suicide and hospital admissions due to adult Self Harm that are significantly higher than the national average (Public Health England, 2019).

Mental Ill Health has a significant local impact on employment, with both North Tyneside and the wider North East region having significantly higher proportions of people claiming ESA for mental and behavioural disorders(Public Health England, 2018)
