"Cauvery has been the source of wellbeing, prosperity and the very source of life for these lands. A forest-fed perennial river is fast becoming a seasonal stream as 87% of tree cover has been removed in 50 years. Cauvery is calling, do you have a heart to hear?" - Sadhguru, Founder of Cauvery Calling movement
Help us reach our goal of 2.42 billion trees. Planted so far: 122 million and counting!
As trees around Cauvery have disappeared, soil has been eroded and being a forest fed river Cauvery has suffered a 40% depletion in its flows. At the same time 47,190 farmers in the region have been forced to take their own lives in the last 15 years. We can make a difference.
The simplest way to make Cauvery flow again and bring the region out of its current distressed state is to plant trees. This needs to be done as an economic solution for the farmer's livelihoods while being an ecological solution for the entire river basin. Cauvery Calling will support farmers to plant 2.42 billion trees in the Cauvery basin by adopting agroforestry. This process is proven to increase farmers incomes 300-800% over a 5-7 year period; all whilst improving soil health and increasing water retention in the basin to revive Cauvery to historical flows.
With your support, this project will serve as a model for the entire tropical world and has the potential to touch and benefit the lives of 4.5 billion people who live there.
Your contribution will directly support farmers in the Cauvery region to plant trees and take up agroforestry to improve their livelihoods multifold in a sustainable manner, and at the same time, revive the region’s ecology to safeguard 84 million people who directly depend on Cauvery.
