Story

Never Lose Heart AED Fundraiser in memory of Charles Lobban

Charles Lobban, aged 58, died suddenly and unexpectedly at home from sudden cardiac death. Husband to Trudie, Founder & CEO of Arrhythmia Alliance, STARS and AF Association, it was ironic that Charles last words were Trudie, I am going to faint before collapsing to the floor, unresponsive.

The charity, STARS, was established because their youngest daughter, Francesca, suffered with syncope (fainting); Charles worked alongside Trudie to raise awareness and support patients and their families in seeking a diagnosis and treatment. In the year or so before his death, Charles helped launch the Arrhythmia Alliance campaign to place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in communities to save lives from sudden cardiac death.

Sadly Charles could not be saved on that fateful day, however, we can ensure his memory lives on through A-A Defibs Save Lives.

This devastating tragedy inspired Trudie to continue the Defibs Save Lives Campaign and initiate the program in the US, even though the device failed to save her beloved husband, she was driven to ensure that AEDs were accessible to all those who do suffer an unexpected out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest. Trudie refused to let her husbands death be in vain, and his legacy lives on through the amazing life-saving work of the Arrhythmia Alliance.

Trudie and her daughters, Charlotte and Francesca, know first-hand, what it is like to lose a loved one as a result of sudden cardiac death. It is something they would never wish upon anyone. Nothing can prepare you for a situation like this; but having access to an AED can help.

In memory of Charles Lobban, Arrhythmia Alliance will select a deserving recipient to receive the dedicated Charles Lobban AED. The life-saving devices will be placed in dedication to Charles and as a reminder that we should all continue to work together to ensure that our local community remains HeartSafe.
