Give the Gift of Education
This course has changed my outlook. I am able to realise my dreams and now I have hopes for a new career. I'm a single mother, with no regular income, without the student bursary there is no way I could have afforded to do the course.
For many people, the first step to getting back on track is a chance to develop personally and professionally. Education can be that step.
At City Lit, we believe that no matter what obstacle someone may face, access to the education they need should not be one of them.
Last year the Fund supported students aged 19 to 75, but we weren't able to help everyone who needs it. And applications are expected to increase by 50% this year.
The amount of the award varies and can help with course fees, assistance with travel, caring expenses, and materials.
With your help, we make sure that everyone, regardless of circumstances, has access to the education they need to change their lives:
Losing one's hearing can often mean losing one's work. The bursary helped me with a lifesaving skills course which was too expensive for me at full price. Lip reading is an essential skill for those with acquired hearing loss--without the bursary I could not have afforded the course.
Going to City Lit has given me that rarest commodity-- hope. I was made redundant and going back to study has made a huge difference to me, it is so exciting to be learning, moving forward and being active. Without the student bursary, it would not have been possible.
I was desperately searching for employment when I approached City Lit. The public speaking course boosted my confidence at a time when it was at an all time low, and enabled me to add proficiency to my CV. Shortly afterwards I quickly found employment. I am very grateful to City Lit for this and especially the bursary programme.
