Celebrating 90 years of music making - support ERSO's 90th Birthday Season
The Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) was founded in in 1931 by Ernest Read, a renowned pioneer in musical education. ERSO has a long tradition of working with children and providing opportunities for young professional musicians at the start of their careers., following directly from Ernest Read's legacy. Our 2020/21 season marks the orchestra's 90th birthday and we have big plans to celebrate the orchestra's incredible history and Ernest Read's massive contribution to music education.
In Spring 2021 we will be hosting a 90th Birthday Gala concert at the prestigious Dukes Hall at the Royal Academy of Music. We'll be joined by young singers and orchestral musicians from Camden. Well also premiere two new pieces by the winner of our young composers competition, one of which will feature the winner of our 2020 ERSO Soloist of the Year competition - massive opportunities which will be a huge boost to their CVs .
100 miles! Support our cyclists
Intrepid cycle team will be taking on the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on Sunday 4 August, 2019. Conductor Chris, oboist Dan, trumpeter Jonathan and keen supporter John are training hard for the gruelling 100-mile route from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, through the City and out to Surrey. The challenge includes testing ascents of both Leith Hill and Box Hill before a return to London and a finish on the Mall (and wearing some rather "fetching" ERSO shirts in public!)
This race is not for the faint hearted, so please support our cyclists by kick-starting our birthday fundraising. Any donation, of any size, would mean a great deal to the cyclists, orchestra and our musical outreach activities.
More about ERSO and our fundraising
The registered charity Music Illuminated manages the running of the orchestra and is staffed by a team of volunteer players. Each season we fundraise through trusts and foundations to enable the orchestra to deliver our children's concerts and talent programme. We are also privileged to be financially supported by the Ernest Read Trust. However, to deliver the extra activities we have planned in this landmark season, we are aiming to raise an extra £5,000 towards venue, music and concert costs .
