Story

FiND is a registered East Yorkshire charity (www.findcharity.org.uk) governed by a board of Trustees. FiND was established back in 2001 by parents of young people with severe learning disabilities, autism and associated complex health conditions getting together to provide services for their children. The charity currently operates day services in both Beverley and Hessle offering vital support to approximately 55 vulnerable young adults from Hull and the East Riding area. These individuals who come to FiND have life-limiting disabilities; which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities and autistic spectrum condition.

With the lease on our current Beverley centre coming to an end, FiND recently purchased a building in Cottingham in March 2019.

Our new centre will allow FiND to continue its aim of delivering meaningful tailored support to each service user. The centre will contain a number of carefully designed zones which will help to facilitate the achievement of each service users personal targets and goals. Busier more vibrant areas of the centre such as the inclusive kitchen will allow us to develop individualised programmes on healthy eating, nutrition and allow beneficiaries to learn how to make a variety of meals. We are planning on incorporating a height adjustable island that will ensure all of our wheelchair users are able to actively participate. Specific workshops such as bread making classes would also be delivered by our highly skilled teams. This supports beneficiaries in their home life, be it with parents or in supported living, whilst at the same time increasing confidence and their well-being.

Quieter areas will provide a more reserved approach, allowing our service users time to process information and take periods of rest. These areas will also provide a more inductive environment to undertake more personalised work, specific to individual goals. This could be to learn and develop their money skills or to learn more about relationships and managing their own emotional well-being.

Our sensory room would provide a calming tailored environment that would support our beneficiaries. It would help individuals attending our service to improve focus and attention, develop their senses and promote cognitive development, all in a safe and relaxing environment. This will enhance their social interaction both within the service and outside in the wider community.

The new Cottingham centre, will be a place where the focus is on every persons abilities rather than the restrictions from their disabilities. We will continue to work closely with each service user and support them with their personal growth, perusing interests and developing skills to increase their levels of independence.

It is deeply important to us that the people who come to FiND have quality opportunities and experiences which are tailored to their growth and well-being as well as the ability to actively involved in their community.

We need your support to reach a £10,000+ target towards our overall goal. This will help to enhance key areas of the new centre. If you are planning a fundraising event, then please contact us and we will help to publicise this. That you in anticipation of your support, it means a great deal to everyone here at FiND.
