Story

We have made the difficult decision to postpone our LBDI Campaign. We aim to hold it in 2020, when our members, networks, and donors can fully engage in the campaign and conversations. We are monitoring the virus situation and environment in London (and around the world) closely and will announce via this page, our website and social media when a new date is determined. Thank you for your understanding and please continue to support your local food charities, follow practices for social distancing, and appreciate the little things.

________

We wear the dress because 55% of low-paying jobs in London are held by women.

LBDI Background and History:

The Little Black Dress Initiative, or LBDI, is a week long, social-media driven advocacy campaign that uses the iconic "Little Black Dress" to raise awareness about poverty and support, through donations, the work of the Junior League of London in our local community.

Participants wear the same black dress/outfit for 5 consecutive days to illustrate the effects poverty can have on a woman's access to resources, her confidence and her professional opportunities.

Since its creation in 2014 in our London branch, the LBDI has raised over £100,000 in London and the initiative has expanded to over 40 Junior Leagues across the United States and Canada.

The positive impact of this global poverty initiative is a testament to Junior League's mission to promote voluntary service, develop the potential of women and improve our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
